Flip Cameras

I read the blog about using Flip cameras. I use them in the classroom all the time too. We also record kids reading so they can see and hear themselves read. They love it! We took the city bus to the downtown library yesterday. We had two digital cameras and two flip cameras with us. Kids took photos and videos the whole time. We videotaped our interview of our media teacher the other day and then videotaped the interview of the children's librarian at the library. It is a great way to go…

I have never thought about copy right issues when it comes to my students. I have to say I do think about it when I am looking for pictures or articles for my students. Today my students were working on their current even and I was more aware of what they were writing and how they were writing. Something they don't even think about is giving credit to the actual author. I need to work with them on that.

Flip Cameras

Flip cameras are a very user-friendly and effective classroom technology tool.  If you have access to a flip camera, I would highly recommend trying it in your classroom.  My students enjoyed making short videos as a culmination of our Betta Fish research project.  We also used flip cameras this week with our Reader's Theatre plays.  When students saw and heard themselves, they were able to critique themselves on their fluency (rate, expression, phrasing) and volume.  The flip camera videos…

iText books

After the announcement from Apple about the iPad2 text book unveiling I had my AP students watch the podcast and respond.  Their comments were interesting.  Many were worried that if a text book were to become to interactive there would be no need for teachers.  I thought that was an interesting thought since those two AP classes are flipped classes.  The classes are run so that the teacher(me) is not the main source of information but a facilitator to help them understand material they are…

Kick-off to my iPad pilot

Last night I had my first meeting for the iPad pilot (I have a class set of 30 iPads wanting to be used) that I am going to be a part of.  I was really excited to get mine, until I opened it up and found a big scratch on the screen.  I still went through the set up but I turn it in at the end of the meeting and will hopefully get mine sometime today if it gets delivered to me at school.  I was introduced to some really cool apps include ArcGIS, which will be perfect for having my students…

I'm glad you thought it was fun learning about copyright, which can be a pretty dry topic.

Using the site: limiter in Google doesn't work for everything. I know I mentioned it doesn't work for library databases, and it may not work for other database structures like iTunes App Store.

You're welcome! We try to make copyright a little bit more interesting by incorporating a game.

I'm with you on that!  I, too, have set up Kidsblog but just have the time to figure out how to implement in my classroom.  Maybe we should try to put our heads together on this.

I totally agree!  Now that I understand more about copyrights,  I will be more aware of giving proper consideration to my resources.  I already learned my lesson from Napster---I had to pay a settlement from the damage my daughters…

Well, if they are just embedding, I wouldn't worry about it so much...but it's still probably better to just link to the video. Put a link to the video so you don't have to worry about it at all.

I do not recall the exact websites.  I think they were websites related to NHD topics, not YouTube or TeacherTube type sites.

So where are the videos from? Some other video site that allowed embedding?

The videos were not posted on YouTube and the websites did not easily allow users to download the videos.

Have you been reading about Google changing privacy in the next couple of months, where they'll look at more of our info in Gmail, Google+, etc., to make ads more for what we would like? I've been reading a lot of articles freaking out…

Like we talked about last night, the copyright holder is the one responsible for bringing about a suit. If they see someone using their stuff without citing them or without permission, they would go after the district who would in turn go after the…

There is no firm number of how much someone can get fined. It's all over the board. You'll learn a lot during our Copyright lesson in-person.

YES! Isn't that video fascinating? If you heard about PIPA and SOPA this past week you know that the film and music industry were behind that bigtime, too.

You'll definitely want to use the Creative Commons to find items, though.
